La Costiera Triestina - August 21

 A short trip to the beautiful Costiera Triestina: 17. - 21. 8. 2021

I started my trip to Italy in Carinthia at Opa Sepp's, visiting the Nockalmstraße, Turracher Höhe and Millstätter See.

On August, 17th I left Spittal/Drau to drive about 2h 15min to the coast west of TRIEST.

I had a very nice camp booked in SISTIANA: "Camp Mare Pineta" - on top of the cliffs, with a beautiful beach down in Sistiana Mare.

The cliffs of "Sentiero Rilke" next to the campsite (looking down to Sistiana Mare and Porto Piccolo)

I spent the first afternoon at the beautiful beaches and explored the surrounding a bit in the evening

On the next day Lucia (my colleague from Triest) came to spend the day with me. We walked along the scenic coastal path "Sentiero Rilke" (about 2,5km) to DUINO.

There we visited Castello Duino and its park and belvedere

Afterwards we went swimming in the tiny harbour of Duino and had a late lunch in the village before we walked back to the campsite along the "Sentiero Rilke".

In the late afternoon Lucia drove us to the village Prosecco with her car to walk the famouse "Napoleonica" coastal path from Prosecco to Opiccina.

In the evening Lucia invited me to her house in Opiccina to meet her family.

The next day I first relaxed at the beach in Sistiana Mare and then took the boat (La barca "Delfino Verde") to Trieste in the late afternoon. The boat passed by Castello Miramare and Barcola before reaching TRIESTE

I spent a nice evening in the city centre with sight-seeing and shopping and met Lucia and her husband in the late evening for a drink.

On my last day at the Costiera Triestina I made a bike trip. I started along the rocky offroad path "Gemina" and then continued along the villages of the "Karst" (lime stone) plateau until Prosecco. There I drove down to the coast at Barcola along the "Strada del Friuli".

I continued along the Lungomare to Castello Miramare.

After a short rest in the beautiful garden of  Castello Miramare I drove back to Sistiana along the "Strada Costiera SP14"

After a lunch at the campsite I spent another nice afternoon at the beach and drove back home to Carinthia in the later evening (to avoid the strong traffic on the weekend).
