Österreich Rundreise

Juli 2020:  12 very nice (but challenging) days trough A U S T R I A

Camping in Austria can be challenging, if the weather is not always friendly...😅

On 24. 7. we started via Westautobahn and along Traunsee to beautiful but chilly cold HALLSTÄTTER SEE.

Schloss Orth on Traunsee

We had a reservation for the simple "Camp Klausner - Höll" in LAHN, just 5min out of Hallstatt.

There we visited Hallstatt and the Skywalk on Salzberg.

Hallstatt

?!? Really ?!?

The weather was very challenging (thunderstorms, cold and wet nights...) but we were lucky for our daytrip to DACHSTEIN/Krippenstein:

We took the public bus to Obtraun to the Krippenstein tripple cable car. First we visited the giant ice cave "Rieseneishöhle"

Then we took the 2nd cable car to Krippenstein to visit the "Welterbeblick" and the "5Fingers Plattform"

And afterwards enjoyed a beautiful sunny evening at Hallstätter See (visiting Hallstatt with my SUP)

Another daytrip (on a rainy day) to Altausseer See and Bad Aussee

When the weather got finally nicer again, we passed over to Grundlsee

and walked about 20min to mysterious TOPLITZSEE

There we convinced the captain of the boat company that the weather was nice enough to row the boats (Zille) over Toplitzsee to Kammersee and organised more people to join us.

Kammersee

After the boat tour we had a wonderful fish dinner (Forelle - trout) at "Fischerhaus"

On the next day we left Hallstätter See to move over to beautiful "Camp Austria" near St.Lorenz at  MONDSEE

Schafberg and Drachenwand
and finally nice weather for swimming

On the second day we took the public bus to St.Gilgen at WOLFGANGSEE and then the ship "Kaiser Franz Josef" (with prebooked tickets) to St.Wolfgang

Leaving St.Gilgen
St. Wolfgang

After a nice walk through silent St.Wolfgang (hardly any tourists after a Corana cluster problem) we took the "Schafbergbahn" to Schafberg

Mondsee
Wolfgangsee

Back at the Camp we faced a heavy thunderstorm

The next day was cloudy and therefore we decided to visit Bad Ischl with the car
Kaiserpark and Kaiser Villa
Bad Ischl town center

On the way back the sun came out again and we found a beautiful place for swimming at ATTERSEE near Weißenbach

Afterwards we visited Mondsee town

After 3 days on Mondsee we moved on again.
We drove along Fuschlsee and visited Gaisberg on the way to Salzburg

We had a booking for the beautiful garden like campsite "Camping Nord-Sam" and spent a nice day sightseeing in SALZBURG

view from Mönchsberg
Getreidegasse

In the evening we met Christian and his girl friend Gabi for a delicious dinner at "Zwettlers"

On the next day we left Salzburg again and passed over Obertauern Pass...

...to visit Opa Sepp at TURRACHER HÖHE

Turracher See

hiking from Kornock to Rinsenock

The second night we spent in Spittal/Drau to finalize our first selfmade "Zirbenschnaps"

Then we moved on to visit Martin and Martina's family in Oberdrauburg and made a nice hiking tour on Zettersfeld (above Lienz) with them

Afterwards we visited LIENZ for a coffe and back in Oberdrauburg the Silberbachklamm

On our last day in Oberdrauburg we were lucky to find lots of Eierschwammerl (chanterelles)

Unfortunately the weather situation got worse and days with heavy rain were prognosed. Therefore we decided to skip our last stop at Pressegger See and drove directly back home to Vienna after 12 nice days touring around Austria.
